Analysis Using Excel and Mathematica - 731

Course Description The purpose of this seminar is to demonstrate how you can extend the capabilities of Excel in support of the engineering design process by going beyond what is available with built-in Excel worksheet functions. This can lead to faster, more-powerful, more-maintainable spreadsheet models. Two methods of extending the capabilities of Excel will be covered: 1) Using the powerful commercial add-in package Mathematica Link for Excel and 2) Writing your own custom functions using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). Using Mathematica Link for Excel increases your computational and visualization abilities by providing a gateway into the high-end Mathematica analysis environment. VBA offers unlimited customization abilities to Excel using the Visual Basic programming language. In both cases, Excel is the command and control platform. (3-days)
