Focus This course draws on experience by the instructors in setting up integrated conceptual design centers which provides the tools and collaborative environment needed to quickly determine the viability of engineering conceptual designs. The course is designed to cover all the fundamental topics necessary to grasp the breadth and depth of topics involved in contemporary vehicle dynamics including design, development, testing and operation. The principles of the course are immediately validated using previously developed Excel spreadsheet VBA vehicle dynamics functions. Participates in this course learn how to do rapid vehicle dynamics modeling, analysis and optimization using Excel spreadsheet, VBA and pre-developed vehicle dynamics Toolboxes. Sercel Ph.D. is a 20 plus year veteran of NASA, commercial, and DoD government space projects with direct hands on experience as a bench-level propulsion technologist, project engineer, systems engineer, project manager, program manager, software designer, software manager, and enterprise process architect. Sercel has a Ph.D. from Caltech in Mechanical Engineering focussed on space propulsion and 13 years of graduate level teaching experience at Caltech. Currently a member of the research staff in the area of Controls and Dynamical Systems at Caltech, Sercel is credited with having identified the need for ion propulsion as a way to reduce cost in solar system exploration and with initiating and defining the technical parameters of the NSTAR project which became the first ion propulsion system flown beyond Earth orbit. Recently Sercel held a senior government position serving as the Chief Systems Engineer of the Transformational Communications Satellite (TSAT) program and then as a senior technical and process advisor for the $3.6B/yr Air Force Research Laboratory. Sercel has consulted for numerous Fortune 500, small, and mid-sized aerospace companies and government agencies. Software designed by Sercel is in use enhancing the productivity of engineers in many government labs and private companies including JPL's award winning Team X Project Design Center.
